Compiling a list of 100 books here, that need to be read in your lifetime?
Can this ever do justice to any debut author having a compelling reason to tell a story. Never!
Being an Indian fiction writer with an altogether different outlook, I am not the one in league with those self-professed writers who call their own work as the bestseller.
I wrote 'The Gods Have Vanished!' without dialogues, without having to adopt nefarious designs to quickly hop over that proverbial and blatant bandwagon of Indian writers, overnight.
I did not search for bestseller genre statistics before putting pen to paper.
I neither had, nor I ever tried to set aside an impressive budget for a well-defined marketing strategy, to MAKE my readers read this book.
I never thought of catering to tastes or targeting my niche readers. My niche and genre isn't defined at all, because it simply does not exist.
'The Gods Have Vanished!' concerns each one of us. If you still insist on knowing before you read, the niche and genre are definitely UNIVERSAL. I just want the story to be read, if not during my lifetime, maybe, thereafter.
Just in case if you make up your mind, read it from cover to cover. A blurb is too short a piece to tell you all. No publisher publishes your book if its without a blurb and genre. That's the reason why it's there. Read it as if you are going to watch a movie, silently, attentively, from the beginning till the end.
Just don't try to rush through. Take it very easy. Try to ponder over the words. Don't read it like any other genre. It doesn't exist here.
I may be living in a culture that may be different from your culture. My tastes may be different from your tastes. My likes and dislikes may, well, be poles apart. .
The elements of this book are universal, nothing to do with my point of view. This realistic fiction has more to do with the various aspects of human life, human needs, human ambitions, human outlook towards life, human lust, human survival, and all those human desires that never find an end.
The story transcends boundaries. It's universal
Why did the Gods vanish from this Earth?
What are our basic needs worldwide?
Are we not in the World Wide Web of relationships?
We live in our dreams!
We are ambitious, living in our small dream worlds. For us, life isn't well-lived unless we reach the heights of all worldly comforts. We are just not satisfied, we are always demanding, we want better and better, and the best. For us, sky is the limit. We think we will be more happy with more material possessions. That's never the case. Yes, we are all aware of the problems that confound Mother Earth. But, with all our unending desires, we are helpless. We know and understand, preach and profess, but are unable to follow.
Am I trying to make you a mystic?
The world of information technology.
Today, we are tied by computer scientists and information technologists. They have been successful in connecting all the computers and all the information of the whole world through one common cord. The network. Our network is one big computer, our digital nervous system. We have made this possible at the level of a machine. But we have bitterly failed at the human level. Can this be really possible? Can the whole world become one cosmic family? Perhaps we still need to find answers. And, probably, there are no straight ones.
This book by an Indian writer has no dialogues, but it speaks volumes. It has all the potential of a bestseller in 2021. It can go viral in these times of worldwide pandemic and change your outlook, for the betterment of mankind.
